For example, a man who is 178cm tall with a 17.5cm wrist circumference has a ratio of 178 ÷ 17.5 = 10.17, placing him in the medium frame category. Because wrist circumference is used specifically — rather than, say, waist or arm measurements — it's a genuinely useful proxy for skeletal structure: the wrist consists mostly of bone with minimal fat or muscle tissue surrounding it, making it relatively stable and unaffected by body weight changes, unlike almost any other simple body measurement.
